Hospitality Events /Round the Island Race
The largest and most spectacular sailing event in the world! Saturday 1st June 2013. The Round the Island Race takes place in June every year and has been running since 1931.
The course
The event is a complete circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight starting on the Royal Yacht Squadron line just off Cowes. The fastest entrants will finish the 50nm course within 4 hours with 40’ yachts taking on average 6-8 hours.

World's largest race
Typically over 1850 boats will take part with as many as 16,000 competitors, making it the fourth largest sporting event in the UK.
Rating system
Entrants are ‘rated’ thus making it possible for a modest family boat sailed beautifully to defeat a modern high performance giant trimaran and win the Gold Roman Bowl.
Needles rounding
To the general public, the race is perhaps best known for the extraordinary photographs of the fleet passing the Needles ablaze with brightly coloured spinnakers.
