The Folly Inn, Whippingham Near Cowes
One of our favourite river-side spots, The Folly Inn Whippingham on the Isle of Wight is shut for a few weeks for refurbishment. The Folly Inn is a rustic pub on the banks of the River Medina, Cowes with moorings and a water taxi service available. It is a great lunch location whether on a Yacht, Rib or Powerboat day. The pub will closed on Monday 13th May and will re open on Friday 7th June 2013.

Last Thursday 18th April 2013 Solent Events descended on Gunwharf Quay Portsmouth for a pre-season open day. A range of vessels available for charter this year were on display including 75' motor yacht, Volvo Open 70, Princess 65, Beneteau and Jeanneau yachts and the ever popular Ribs. The event was a great success, the sun even made an appearance! Great to see so many people there, thank you to those who attended.

New strategic partnership with the Professional Cricketers Association
Solent Events are pleased to announce a new strategic partnership with the Professional Cricketers Association (PCA). Attaining the title of sailing and marine events provider, Solent Events look forward to working with the PCA and the PCA Benevolent Fund to provide sailing and powerboat events both to PCA and to their commercial partners. Watch this space for details of a PCA sailing regatta in the future with renown cricketing ambassadors on each of the competing yachts!

Michelle and Simon went over to the venue yesterday to take a look... we think it looks great! Lime Wood is set in the heart of the New Forest close to Lyndhurst, which is around 20 minutes from Southampton or Lymington where Solent Events can get your group out on the water. Following customer feedback taken on board by the owners, the venue has undergone extensive remodelling of the restaurant and bar facilities to suit both formal occasion dining or a more informal visits by regular diners.

The 12th edition of the Volvo Ocean Race will take place in 2014-2015 with locations including Alicante in Spain, Brazil, Abu Dhabi and many more. Even more exciting, the 2017-2018 Volvo Ocean Race will see a stopover in Cardiff following a successful bid for hosting rights. The stopover should have a great economic impact for Cardiff who already host the Extreme Sailing Series Regattas. The port was selected from 66 applicants worldwide, 4 of which came from the UK. Cardiff made a particularly impressive bid to win one of the coveted European slots and with such outstanding facilities and great enthusiasm I'm convinced that we will have a stopover to remember," said Volvo Ocean Race's Chief Operating Officer Tom Touber.
