Sir Robin Knox-Johnston Finishes Route Du Rhum

Sir Robin Knox Johnston has crossed the finish line of the Route Du Rhum solo transatlantic race at the age of 75 – 45 years after he became the first man to sail non stop around the world.

Sir Robin, founder of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, entered the Route Du Rhum competition in his Open 60 yacht Grey Power and was the eldest participant in the 3542 mile race from St Malo, France to Guadeloupe in the Caribbean. He crossed the finish line on Saturday after 20 days, 7 hours and 52 minutes, finishing 3rd in his class. 

Speaking after the race, Sir Robin said: “I am absolutely over the moon, ecstatic to get third. I didn’t expect to get third when I started the race.”

Solent Rib Charter were out on the water with Sir Robin (image above) for a photo shoot pre Route Du Rhum, it is always a pleasure to see him in action.
