Hospitality Events /America's Cup
The America's Cup World Series held major international regattas in Portsmouth during both 2015 and 2016. The events were a triumph; crowds exceeded 240,000 with some 2,000 boats also watching from the water. Sir Ben Ainslie's Landrover BAR team were victorious in both regattas, positively affecting their seeding for the America's Cup qualifier events taking place in Bermuda later this year.
Solent Events offered amazing hospitality packages for both events, helped in no small part by another group company (Solent Rib Charter) being the official Rib supplier to the Americas Cup organisation. Guests were able to enjoy unique access to the VIP on the water viewing area.
Return to the UK???
Emirates Team New Zealand managed to take the cup, known as the Auld Mug, from the Americans in 2017 and intend to race the 36th America's Cup with new foiling AC75 mono hull yachts in 2021.
The dates and venue of both the America’s Cup Match and The PRADA Cup (previously The World Series) will be announced by 31st August 2018. The intended venue is Auckland, New Zealand with the Match to be raced in March 2021, preceded by The Prada Cup in January and February 2021. We very much hope that racing will return to the Solent in the lead up to the main event and will of course be offering hospitality if so.
The America's Cup is one of the oldest sporting events in the world dating back to 1851 and the UK has never won to date. Let's hope this changes in 2021!
